PromptVeil is a browser extension that helps a user review sensitive text before submitting a prompt to a supported AI website. Its detection and redaction features run locally in the user’s browser. PromptVeil has no publisher-operated backend.
On a supported AI website that the user has explicitly enabled, PromptVeil’s content script can access that site’s page content as permitted by the browser. PromptVeil uses this access for its single purpose: locating supported prompt inputs and send actions, reading the prompt when a supported send is attempted, showing the local review dialog, and applying user-selected redactions.
The prompt can contain sensitive categories such as:
Detection is heuristic. PromptVeil can miss sensitive text or flag harmless text. It is a review aid, not guaranteed protection or a compliance control.
When a user redacts a finding, PromptVeil temporarily keeps the original-to-placeholder mapping in the current tab’s memory so the user can restore the text while editing. The extension does not write these mappings to extension storage. They are discarded when the relevant workflow ends, including send, dismissal, tab reload, or tab close.
PromptVeil stores these items in chrome.storage.local within the user’s browser profile:
Supported-site access grants are managed separately by Chrome’s permissions system and can be removed through PromptVeil or Chrome’s extension settings.
Confidential terms can themselves be sensitive. They remain local to the browser profile and are used only for exact, case-insensitive local matching.
Aggregate counts are off by default. If the user enables them in Settings, PromptVeil stores only local totals such as:
These totals do not contain prompt text, matched values, redaction mappings, URLs visited, AI account identifiers, or browsing history.
PromptVeil does not collect or transmit user data to the publisher or any publisher-operated service. In particular, PromptVeil has:
The extension package contains no remote executable code. Scripts and styles run from the installed extension package.
Prompt text and matched values are processed in memory and are not intentionally retained by PromptVeil after the local review workflow.
Settings and confidential terms remain in the browser profile until the user changes or removes them or uninstalls the extension. Optional aggregate counts remain until the user selects Settings → Clear counts, disables the feature for future counting, clears the extension’s browser storage, or uninstalls the extension. Browser profile backup, enterprise, or retention behavior is controlled by the browser or device administrator, not PromptVeil.

Because PromptVeil has no backend, there is no publisher-side account or server record to delete.
PromptVeil runs before supported send actions, but it does not replace or control the AI website. When the user chooses to submit—whether unchanged or redacted—the AI website receives the final text through its own page and processes it under its own privacy policy and terms. PromptVeil cannot control the AI site’s storage, model training, logging, account handling, or onward disclosure.
Optional host access can be granted for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity. Access is requested only for the exact supported origins selected by the user and can be removed at any time.
PromptVeil’s use of information received from Google APIs and browser extension APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data access is limited to providing and improving the user-facing local prompt-review feature. PromptVeil does not use or transfer data for personalized advertising, creditworthiness, lending, unrelated profiling, or human review. No publisher personnel can access prompt content through PromptVeil because the extension does not transmit it to a publisher service.
PromptVeil is a general productivity and safety tool and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Material privacy changes will be documented in the extension’s release notes and an updated policy with a new effective date. A change that introduces data transmission would require updated disclosures and product review before release.
